Welcome to Week 2 Term 3

Kia orana (MAY YOU LIVE A LONG AND FULFILLING LIFE)

It is Cook Island Language Week this week. Our Pasifika group have given us a class challenge -  to learn a prayer they gave us and then to stand up and say it in front of the school at singing time on Thursday before we go out to lunch.

Things on this week:
3-way conferences

Three-Way Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday 3rd August from 3.10 to 6.00 pm and Wednesday 4th August 3.10 - 6.00 pm. You need to go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter the event code aemzc.

The time allowed for each conference is 10 minutes. Please be considerate of the teacher (who needs to keep to the appointment schedule) and other parents who have made bookings. If you feel you need more time for discussion, please organise another time to meet with the teacher.

The purpose of the conference is so parents/student/teacher can co-construct a literacy goal, maths goal and a values/key competency goal.

Reports were sent home with your child on Friday. With the reports is a whānau sheet for you to rate your child’s progress against the key competency area.

The Key Competencies are capabilities that help your child learn. Using the scale you tick the appropriate box that you think best describes your child. Please return the form to your classroom teacher on Monday the 2nd of August. This document will form part of the discussion, in order to co-construct your child’s next learning goals, at the learning conferences.

Novena in Preparation for the Assumption of Mary

Middle School: 06-08-21  Week 2 Friday

Life Education

We enjoyed our first session of Life Education with Katie and of course Harold the Giraffe. All Kahikatea Middle School classes will have another opportunity this week to visit the Life Education van for lessons. You may wish to ask your child about what they have been learning in Life Education. Harold even joined us for assembly on Friday.

Assembly this Friday
Room 14/15 is presenting a play called The Rock Warriors at assembly this Friday. Some students will have lines to learn and will need to bring some clothes from home to wear as costumes. We look forward to seeing some of our parents in the audience!

KEEPING OURSELVES SAFE: from Viv

Kia ora koutou.

I would like to acknowledge St Mary’s school for its ongoing commitment to delivering the Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS) programme. KOS is a personal safety programme that teaches students vital interpersonal skills in different situations. You can find out about the programme at: https://www.police.govt.nz/advice-services/personal-community-safety/school-portal/resources/successful-relationships/kos

The programme will be delivered by classroom teachers from 23rd August. There will be a community hui at St Mary's School on Monday 9 August, 5.15-6pm, in Room 14, where I will explain what the programme entails, and share some tips about keeping your young ones safe. You are encouraged to attend.

Please take time to speak with your children about what they are learning in the programme. It will also give you an opportunity to reinforce your family’s values and expectations.

If you have any questions please contact me Vivienne.Sutton@police.govt.nz
