Kahikatea Big Day In

Image
Kahikatea Big Day In Dear Parents and Caregivers, Next Monday 6th December is our Kahikatea Big Day In. This is a fun day of celebrations as we approach the end  of the year. We have a range of fun-filled activities planned. The children can wear mufti and will need to bring in their togs, a towel, sunhat, sunscreen and a drink bottle of water . Children are allowed to bring labelled water guns for the water fight.  NO WATER Balloons.  Please ensure all items are named (togs, towels, water guns ect.) We would like to have hot chips for a morning tea picnic and would appreciate a $2 koha contribution. Children will still need to bring their own lunch. Unfortunately due to restrictions, we are not permitted to have the usual celebrations of learning with our parents.  Thank you for all your support this year. Kahikatea Team

Welcome to Week 7 Term 4

Good morning on this beautiful summer day.  It is hard to think that there are only three more weeks left of the school year.  Let's make these the three best ones we've had, by being organised, being kind and having a big dollop of patience. š…µ؜š…“ Kahikatea is looking forward to our Big Day In on Monday 6 December.  Unfortunately with Covid restrictions, we are unable to invite parents to join us.  Please keep a lookout for a notice which will be sent home this week outlining all the details. Looking back at what was going on this time last year and it was jam packed with lots of activity - preparing for the curtain going up for Peter Pan, Ahurei, student Celebration Day at school, Christmas Parade, students competed in inter-school athletics. Unfortunately many activities have had to be cancelled this year due to COVID and many more will also need to be cancelled. Presently we are looking at how our end of year prizegiving and Mass is going to look. Plans will need to fit acc

Cardboard box for habitat creation

Kia ora whānau,  Tomorrow we will be making habitats for our clay taniwha's. I have asked students to bring a small cardboard box tomorrow, approximately the size of a shoebox. If you have any spare boxes, we will happily take them off your hands, as some students may forget or not have any at home. Students are also able to bring other things for their habitats, e.g. plants, fabric, plastic animals etc.  Thank you,  Sophie Bowie

Bonjour parents and whānau and welcome to Week 6! I hope families are enjoying the early summer weather we are getting and making the most of it. There are less than four weeks of learning left until the end of the school year. St Mary's will be finishing at midday on Thursday 16th December. Last week we had an awesome time swimming and learning about the Taniwha of Kuirau Park. Check out the taniwha clay sculptures the children made. Just a friendly reminder that all students need to bring their  hats  to school, we know how harsh our New Zealand sun is. Also, please continue checking that your child is bringing their  device to school fully charged . We will be continuing with our learning programme right up to the end of the year. Assessments are now mostly finished and data is being analysed as teachers finalise the end of year report writing. Kahikatea Middle School will be having a Big Day In on Tuesday, December 6th to celebrate our great year of learning. There will be a ra

Aloha parents and whānau, welcome to week 5! I hope you've had a wonderful weekend and managed to find time to relax with your family. We are over halfway through the term and the busyness is well and truly upon us. We had a fantastic day at Athletics on Monday. The kids all did so well and it was awesome to have some parent helpers as well. A huge congratulations to those students who competed in the gymnastics competition, I know you have been practising hard all year.  Just a friendly reminder that all students need to bring their  hats  to school, we know how harsh our New Zealand sun is. Also, please continue checking that your child is bringing their  device to school fully charged . We will be doing some assessments this week, which students will require their Chromebooks for.  With Delta cases now in Rotorua, sanitising and staying home if unwell is more important than ever. Please do not send your child to school if they are sick.  We have some exciting learning ahead th

Kia ora Room 15 whānau, We would like to express our gratitude to all families that helped and supported our school with the working bee yesterday. It was a very successful day with such a great turnout. Plenty of jobs were completed. Thank you once again for your extra helping hands. It is great to see manaakitanga ( kindness) and kotahitanga ( unity) in action at our school. PTA Raffle Results 1st Prize Bye Family 2nd Prize Ruden Castillo 3rd Prize Grace Defensor Sustainability learning This term, Sustainability is the concept that the children's learning will be based around. We are very lucky to learn about terrariums. Terrariums are miniature gardens, housed inside small – and usually sealable – containers like bottles and jars. As fully functioning (albeit tiny) plant ecosystems, they’re mostly self-sustaining, with the plants watering themselves through transpiration and condensation. Science! Our request is for any clear plastic or glass jars at home that you are happy to d
