Welcome to Week 6

Good afternoon Whānau, 

I hope you have had a great weekend and have found some nice things to do amongst the on/off rain that has been happening. 

Yay! We are back down to Level 1 now and invite you back into the school. Please remember, however, that if your child isn't well, it is safest to keep them at home.

Last week, we finished off our time with Henk. The students and teachers learned a lot and had fun with him. We will be swimming again this week in preparation for our Swimming sports day on Monday 22nd March for our Kahikatea and Totara teams. We ask that all parents fill out the following form by Wednesday, March 17th.

We have been working hard to establish routines with the students over the past few weeks. Although we still have a large number of students that are forgetting to charge their Chromebooks, bring their hats or headphones, please help to establish this routine at home.
At this point, students should be getting their work done at school, we ask that parents read with the students each night at home, as we have introduced browsing boxes for the students to choose a book from. The children should be able to get their progressions and units in Math-Whizz and Lexia at school.

This week in R.E. we will be looking at the Stations of the Cross and invite you to come to the 10:00 Stations of the Cross with us in the church.

Important Events Coming Up:
- First Aid Fundraiser (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) ice blocks for $1.00 - Swimming every day. Thank you for ensuring your children have their togs, towels, and goggles. - Library is on Tuesday
-RATS Duathlon event is taking place on Tuesday. - School Gala has been set for Friday, March 15th. A new countdown will be issued to children to take home this week. It is OK for families to bring stuff in earlier this week if they wish.
- Friday - Stations of the Cross 10:00 - Church
- Swimming Sports - March 22nd
Friendly Reminders: - Chromebooks need to come to school charged. As we are a BYOD school, many of our learning activities now require devices. Headphones are essential, please. - Each child needs a school hat. They can be purchased from the uniform shop for $13.
- Please LABEL your children's clothing, we have quite a few issues with shorts/dresses ending up on the wrong body.
- If you need headphones still, Kmart, The Warehouse, or school have them ranging in price from $8

Kia ora whānau,  Congratulations on making it to the final week of what has been a fun and turbulent school year. Thank you all for the time, dedication and effort you have put into your children's learning, particularly during the lockdown period.  We have been doing all sorts of crafts, technology projects, science and physical activities during our morning rotations, which the kids have thoroughly enjoyed. Welcome to Week 7 Term 4

Good morning on this beautiful summer day.  It is hard to think that there are only three more weeks left of the school year.  Let's make these the three best ones we've had, by being organised, being kind and having a big dollop of patience. 𝅵؜𝅴 Kahikatea is looking forward to our Big Day In on Monday 6 December.  Unfortunately with Covid restrictions, we are unable to invite parents to join us.  Please keep a lookout for a notice which will be sent home this week outlining all the details. Looking back at what was going on this time last year and it was jam packed with lots of activity - preparing for the curtain going up for Peter Pan, Ahurei, student Celebration Day at school, Christmas Parade, students competed in inter-school athletics. Unfortunately many activities have had to be cancelled this year due to COVID and many more will also need to be cancelled. Welcome Ākonga and Whānau

  Hello! My name is Sophie, also known as Miss Bowie. I am very excited to be embarking on a new adventure at St Marys this year, after teaching for 4 years at Kawaha-Point School. My passions include playing netball, exploring new places, spending time with my friends and whānau, eating lots of delicious food, and of course, teaching. I am currently training for a half-marathon, which I will be running with Miss Lovegrove (If I can keep up with her long legs!). Throughout my early teaching years, I have had many “wow moments” with my students, which are memories I will treasure forever. I cannot wait to create more precious memories this year in rooms 14 and 15.  Kia Ora Tatou! I’m Tai, but in the class setting I am known as Mrs YTT, mama, and yes, sometimes nana.
