Welcome to Week 11

Good Afternoon Whānau, 

We are about to commence the last week of Term 1, which will be followed by the beginning of two week's school holidays. It has been a busy term with lots of important learning and everyone is feeling ready for a break to recharge the batteries. Thank you for all the support and encouragement you have given your children, and the school, over the course of Term 1.

Swimming is finished until Term 4 and children will not be required to wear a hat next term when outside. 

On Sunday we had many of our students being confirmed and making their First Holy Communion. This is a very exciting time for them, please keep them in your prayers.

Coming up this week:

- No Swimming this week. 
- Cricket on Monday.
- Chess Club on Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes. 
- Library and ICT Club on Thursday.
- No assembly this week
- Interschool Swimming Sports
- Senior School Art Exhibition - Friday.

Two Messages From Mr Macmillan:

During the holidays we celebrate ANZAC Day (Sunday 25th April). I am hoping to have a strong representation from our school attending the parade. If your child would like to join us and walk in the parade and participate in the Civic Ceremony at the Bay Trust Forum, Energy Events Centre, Queens Drive please make sure they are at the Lakefront Memorial (intersection of Fenton St and Whakaue Streets)  by 8.30am in their winter school uniform. Jersey, not fleece top. The ceremony concludes at the Energy Events Centre and should be over by 11.00am Parents are also invited to be part of the parade and service. Children just might want to be part of the parade. If you have a poppy your child can wear, please pin it on them. I will have some spare ones to give to children at the parade.  This is a very special ceremony so I do encourage our children to be part of this. ALL STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE.

At the start of Term 2, children must be in winter uniform. Uniforms can be bought from our uniform shop. The shop is open Monday 8.30am, Wednesday at 2.30pm, Friday at 8.30am and on Monday, the first day back in Term 2, at 8.30pm. I want to make sure our students are wearing the correct uniform in Term 2.  At this point, I would also like to mention that our Lost Property is *overflowing* with items left around the schoolyard by students.

Friendly Reminders:

- Chromebooks need to come to school charged. As we are a BYOD school, many of our learning activities now require devices. Headphones are essential, please. If your child's Chromebook is not working, I recommend contacting Paul (see contact details below).
- Please LABEL your children's clothing, we have quite a few issues with shorts/dresses ending up on the wrong body.
- If you need headphones still, Kmart, The Warehouse, or school have them ranging in price from $8
-Please collect bread tags and yummy stickers, if you need a chart please have your child come and see Mrs. Dinniss

Good morning on this beautiful summer day.  It is hard to think that there are only three more weeks left of the school year.  Let's make these the three best ones we've had, by being organised, being kind and having a big dollop of patience. 𝅵؜𝅴 Kahikatea is looking forward to our Big Day In on Monday 6 December.  Unfortunately with Covid restrictions, we are unable to invite parents to join us.  Please keep a lookout for a notice which will be sent home this week outlining all the details. Looking back at what was going on this time last year and it was jam packed with lots of activity - preparing for the curtain going up for Peter Pan, Ahurei, student Celebration Day at school, Christmas Parade, students competed in inter-school athletics. Unfortunately many activities have had to be cancelled this year due to COVID and many more will also need to be cancelled. Welcome to Week 9 Term 4

Kia ora whānau,  Congratulations on making it to the final week of what has been a fun and turbulent school year. Thank you all for the time, dedication and effort you have put into your children's learning, particularly during the lockdown period.  We have been doing all sorts of crafts, technology projects, science and physical activities during our morning rotations, which the kids have thoroughly enjoyed. Check out our budding beekeepers below!  We sent school reports home on Friday which included a slip with the name of your child's teacher for 2022. All students will be meeting their new teacher and classmates on Monday.  Coming up this week:  Monday - Duathlon  All children will need to bring their togs, towel, hat and sneakers. Welcome to Week 1 Term 4

Welcome back to Term 4 all parents, caregivers and children.  We hope that children had a refreshing break and you are enjoying the nice Spring weather (on most days). It is going to be a very busy term with a lot of things happening, including the St Mary's RE Review in Week One. We will have special visitors checking out our lovely Catholic School on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Covid-19  As you are no doubt aware NZ is in the midst of a Covid-19 Delta variant outbreak. St Mary's will continue to operate under Level 2 restrictions. We are continuing to ask parents not to enter the school except for essential matters. If you do need to come in you must wear a mask and sign in at the school office (or use the NZ covid tracer app). We will need to continue to use basic hygiene measures such as handwashing, use of sanitiser, cough and sneeze etiquette and regularly cleaning and disinfecting high touch surfaces.
